Linden Lab settles lawsuit

According a blogpost, Linden lab has reached a settlement with Marc Bragg, who sued the company for having terminated his account, with the loss of virtual business as a result of that.
I had a few months ago already a blogpost about this lawsuit, that started back in 2006.

"Linden Research, Inc., Philip Rosedale, and Marc Bragg have agreed to settle the “Bragg v. Linden and Rosedale” lawsuit currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The parties agree that there were unfortunate disagreements and miscommunications regarding the conduct and behavior by both sides and are pleased to report that Mr. Bragg’s “Marc Woebegone” account, privileges and responsibilities to the Second Life community have been restored. For the benefit of the Second Life community, the Parties have mutually agreed that the terms of their resolution shall remain confidential. The Parties ask that this confidentiality be respected. "thus the Linden blog.

As I also wrote in other articles, the main reason for discussions in Second Life always appears to be miscommunications.
With this article, I also want to ask all of you, first try to talk things over, before getting angry, blocking friends, ending relationships etc. because most of the time it was just a misunderstanding or interpretation. We are typing most of the time, and can not express our feelings in typing words. Now with Voice this should resolve a great deal.
Second Life has to be fun, there is already enough trouble going on in RL.

mmm or miscommunications AND big egos...

I'm not sure about the voice Looker.. ok.. you have the back-up of the emotional tonality, but on the other hand.. when typing one has more time to think about what you are saying, scroll back to re-read what has said before.. and the possibility to change or even erase before hitting the enter/say button..
a lot of miscommunication can be solved that way..
especially when (one of the) parties knowledge of the commonly used language is limited.

And it is quiet easy to give a hint of your feelings by the emoticans speak..

But the big issue for me is the fact that it even can come to lawsuits about a "world" that for most is just a game.. a playground.

It was to be expected since economy / real money is involved.

I am just wondering how much is going to come still.. even with the details of the settlement held secret, people might get ideas. People whos first concearn isnt enjoying the game, but making financial benefits out of it..

I hope this isnt the beginning of the end for our little toy..

I think, in the end, you will always have miscommunications. What I meant is talk it through thoroughly before making a quarrel about it.
But I hope it will never come that far as you are wondering, as, to me also, it is in fact a little toy.

I am guilty of all of the above. BUT...when someone is rude to me and it is obviously NOT a miscommunication, they are outta here. Life is too short...SL and RL...to surround yourself with rude, ignorant ppl.

I've also deleted ppl I loved in a fit of anger. For me, when I first joined SL, the emotions were too overwhelming. Delete, Delete, Delete!! lol And huge ego. :(

I also agree that voice helps the intent behind the words come through. And it's much quicker than typing. But I only use it now to clarify a sticky situation or if emotions are running high.

Thanks for being here!

LL, hope u're not forgetting that at the end of the day we're but humans. Would it really be reasonable to expect SL to be an expression of perfection - when it's US who build it day after day ? :D

Nobody is perfect, neither am I. But we still can try, don't we?
But after all, I know, SL is just a reflection of RL, and those dreams are just in our imagination.
I am glad to be on the grid, and to have lots of friends from different nations, that is what SL is all about for me.
Thank you, Joonie and Sand to express your own thoughts here. I really appreciate it.
