Etereal Ghost wins the CW Studio Halloween Photo contest

I am proud to inform that this picture has won the first price in the CW Studio Halloween Photo Contest 2009.

It is not always easy to find the right inspiration for pictures, but I am happy with this result.
I truly appreciate the comment written on their blog.

"The use of a transparent layer is breath taking when done right!
The soft ghost against the dark night is what made this image our winner.
I loved the lighting contrast and attention to detail."

Koinup contest presented by Twilight

I would like to tell you about a contest that Koinup is hosting and Twilight is presenting.

I came up with the idea, rules, and awards of the contest. Basically from July 8th to July 18th photographers can submit their work to Koinup on the theme of “Lifestyles.” I wanted to give people the opportunity to present the different styles of living they have encountered or do themselves partake in within Second Life.

There will be seven winners: one jury winner and six community winners. The Jury winner gets an article in the November 1st issue of Twilight Magazine (delayed time due to the magazine being release quarterly now) and also their own exhibit of about 20 photos in the August 9th opening of Twilight Gallery. This August 9th opening will hopefully be the largest ever as we will be having it at our new gallery on its own open spaced sim. The Community winners get their photos in Twilight Magazine and also on display in the main hall of Twilight Gallery during the month of August.

More detailed information can be found at this website: http://www.koinup.com/contest/twilight/. This includes, criteria, and submitting.

Emvee Cuba

Thanks to my friend Raul Crimson, I found out about another sim that I did not see before. And it is another opportunity to compete at a contest. Why not?
The textures on the sim are so real that I will visit the sim more than once. You always have other thoughts once you visited a new place. So, maybe after a few visits, I will see what I need to see to make that one great shot.
You can see some of my pictures here on my blog, but there will be more to see at my flickr stream.

Second Life photo contest

What does mean "Exotic" in your Second Life?
Maybe Exotic is a beach under the sun or a sensual dancer in a sexy club. Exotic could be a landscape manipulated with Windlight or just your avatar with extravagant hair!

This Contest is about the concept of Exotic in Second Life! Don't be shy, tell us what Exotic is for you and submit your photos!

You can submit your entries from February, 14 until March, 6.
The winners will be announced on March, 13 on the Koinup Blog
Read the rules to enjoy and win amazing prices!

Rules and Guidelines

If you wan to take part in this contest, you must have an account on Koinup.

The registration is free and takes a few seconds.

All the submissions in the contest must be tagged with this tag: exoticcontest
(add this tag to each one of your contest entries)

Maximum 2 entries for participant.

In the photo, you can include your avie, your friends or only the landscape.
Submissions must to be screen shots from Second Life. You can use Windlight or you can post process your photos if you like, but it's not required.

Submissions can't be photos already hosted on Koinup. So, please publish new photos.

The Winners

There will be 3 winners, and each one wins 20000 L$.
Two will be selected by our judges and one by the community!

Our Judges are the best known blogger and journalist Hamlet Au and Mario Gerosa, journalist and author of the volume "Second Life".

The community has the chance to view, comments and fav the entries... So invite your friends to visit the contest page and express their preferences!

The coolest entry, according to the Koinup Guidelines, will be the third winner.

The winners photos will be published on the Hamlet Au Blog

This announcement was found on the Koinup log in page and could be something for all of you who want to give it a shot. The prizes are not bad though, but the rules......you have on one side the jury, and on the other the community, and that is just where I have my doubts, as, if you don't have a big social network you are already on the loser's side, even if your pic is good.
But giving it the benefit of the doubt, I think I will submit two of my pictures, as I can do some effort to win 20.000L$, don't you think so?;)

The Second Life 48 Hour Film Project

Past weekend several Second Life teams submitted their films to the 48 Hour Film Project.
All of the films that were submitted will screen on January 16th and 17th, in Second Life's New Globe Theatre and 48.tv at 5.00 PM SLT. The films will play simultaneously at both venues.
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. On Friday night, everyone gets a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in a movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete.
This is the main idea and in 2007, 30.000 filmmakers made films in 55 cities around the world in RL.
This event, with the same brain-twisters has come to the virtual world and the winner will also, besides receiving an interesting amount, be screened at Filmapalooza, a RL event, at the film festival Cinequest in San Jose, California.

This years teams are:

DreamTeam, Dnali Anabuki
The Good Griefers, Cecil Hirvi
GT SLAR, Ashang Jinn
The LifeFactory, LifeFactory Writer
The Machinimatrix, June Brenner
MetaverseTV, Robustus Hax
Team CADE, Sweeny Todd
Team Classy, Lucinda Obviate
Team Harvey, Chantal Harvey
Team Titatovernaar, Titatovernaar Balder
The Vesuvius Group, Rhiannon Chatnoir
Wildcuts, Orpheus Kurosawa

This article is maybe late for you who were interested to compete, but is maybe something to keep in mind for next year's competition. And it will always be interesting to see what those contestants can do in 48 hours with a machinima in a virtual world.
It is not too late to see the last screen at the New Globe Theatre.

OSRAM initiates ideas competition in Second Life

Okay, it is not really fresh news, but maybe you did not see it, maybe you did not know, and I think the price money is worthwhile to consider submitting any idea. If you have seen "the light", now it is the time to come forward.;)
There is still some time left, so get your ideas together and brighten up your Second Life, that is, when the grid is not down, like last night (again).;(

Press release 12/04/07

"The One Million Dollar* Idea"

OSRAM is kicking off its second round of Second Life activities with the launch of an ideas competition, the like of which has yet to be seen. In a competition in the virtual world, the light manufacturer is looking for an idea connected with the world of light. The special feature of the contest: the best idea will not only receive a prize, but will also be turned into an actual product in the real world. The lucky winner will receive a million Linden dollars for the development.

"We believe that Second Life holds a huge international potential for creativity," says Juliane Braun, Head of Corporate Communications, explaining the rationale behind the competition. "We would like to pick up on this and find out how ideas are developed in a virtual world." OSRAM is holding a competition to find an idea which can then be launched on the market as a genuine product. Clearly, this will require more than just a spontaneous brainwave. The feasibility of the idea will thus be investigated in advance in Second Life, before being jointly developed in a specially created development laboratory. The company has set a deadline of five months for selecting the product and has created a kind of development environment with a think tank and conference area on OSRAM Island.

Anyone can apply by submitting a preliminary sketch of the idea for the qualifying round. From the start of the competition on 6 December 2007, the Second Life residents will have four weeks' time to enter. A total of 250 of the entries will be selected - and then the next round will begin in five groups of fifty competitors. The ideas will be refined and elaborated with supervision and presentation by OSRAM specialists. The winner and runner-up in each group will progress into the next round. And: each group winner will receive 75,000 Linden dollars and each group runner-up 25,000 Linden dollars.

The ten finalists will then undergo more scrutiny and their ideas will be further developed with light professionals from OSRAM. The winner or the winning team of the One Million Dollar* Idea competition will be announced after five months. The most original ideas will be presented again and displayed to the community at a big final party.

Second Life tribute to RL Art

Paolo Bade has an exhibition going on at Avatrait Gallery in Second Life.
He made a tribute to a RL photographer, Helmut Newton, and for that reason there is now a photo contest called " A tribute to Paolo Bade's tribute" ....

You can vote every day again on the pictures inworld until December the 16th at the Avatrait Gallery.
I chose to do a difficult one, with Julie Cardiff and Freggeltje Food as my models. I hope you all like the picture, which is a copy of the photograph of the RL artist, but with a little touch of myself.
I revisited the place three times to have everything in place.

If you visit the Avatrait Gallery, to see Paolo Bade' SL Art, please vote in the meanwhile for the picture, shown above, from me.;)TY!

Inventor Contest in Second Life

Get your invention ideas to Electrolux, because the deadline is November 1, and the contest was just announced on October 18, 2007! Your challenge is to create useful devices that solve specific challenges in Second Life. What's at stake is up to 100,000 Linden Dollars (L$s)!!!!
Electrolux is the global producer of household appliances, owner of brands as Frigidaire and Eureka and several other internationally marketed appliance brands.

If you have an idea in RL, but did not had the opportunity to develop, this SL contest could be your chance to get it all started.
Electrolux agrees that you hold all intellectual property rights and it will not disclose your product or concept without your permission. But check and double check the contest's rules and regulations before submitting.
You can submit a concept, you don't need to submit a finished product yet, so maybe, that could help to meet the timeline a bit easier.

Another company, finding its way through Second Life. Another marketing concept being exploited by a multinational enterprise.
Although the announcement came rather late, it is still not too late to submit your invention or idea and become a Linden millionaire.;))
It is amazing and I am glad to see, how many corporates are finding their way throughout the virtual world.
Are you aware that you are being part of something that will be a daily device in the future? The virtual world, where you will be able to do things, to buy things, to develop things etc........

"Electrolux Innovation Grant Program
Assignment:
Second Life residents will be encouraged to submit ideas for useful devices designed to solve a specific challenge. They can present ideas already in development or projects that are still in the concept phase. They can work either as a team or as an individual.
Electrolux will decide among the submissions which projects they deem worthwhile, feasible, and able to be completed. From the projects they select (a number at their discretion) they can then award them significant amounts of grant money in Linden dollars based on merit."

All residents can take part to the contest, even beginners, as there is a special building where you can find instruction video's, free objects and examples to design your own chair, table or lamp.
All visitors can vote weekly for the design of the contestants. The weekly winners have the possibility to win one million Linden Dollars in the final on November 1st!!
What are you waiting for?

Endemol, global leader in television and other audiovisual entertainment in RL, has now taken the option to further research and develop the possibilities of virtual worlds. They think this tool can be attractive to let consumers interact with their brand.
More and more, we see companies moving into the virtual world. It is not yet a boom effect, but will sure have his influences in the development of the virtual worlds.

We have a winner for the Second Life Group Logo Contest, unfortunately it wasn't me.;)
Congratulations to Vint, as she is also the professional one amongst us, and her design is indeed the best one, no doubt.
I was the runner up, which makes me quiet happy, although there was nothing to earn for the second place.;))
Thanks to all my voters!!
The complete results can be seen on Zoe's blog.

SL Blogger Logo

Initially, I was not planning of submitting a logo design for the contest of the Second Life Bloggers, because I am a photographer, and not a graphic designer, although some would say that all photographers are graphic designers. But I had an idea, and thought it would be nice to go for it. Why not?
I had three major thoughts for this design. First thought is that we, bloggers, are sending a message to the world. Therefore I picked the signal that we know from the grid, when we use Voice. I had to change the color, for not making it too bright.
Second thought is that we all write, so a pencil is obvious.
The third thought is that all the bloggers are posting about Second Life, so I used that logo in the background. As many other, not official sites, are using the logo of SL, I think we also can use it for this purpose. We are not stealing a logo, we only use it, as it is the base where all this started. Without SL, we, and certainly me, would never have posted through a blog. (Never say never again;))
The logo will be displayed at Zoe Connolly' place, and all bloggers can vote for the best logo.
"Group members will vote on the winner. Contest Entries will be displayed at the new Connolly Telegraph and Second Life Bloggers Headquarters in Antiquity Cove. Click here for the SLurl to Zoe's parcel in Antiquity Cove."

Awards Photocontest NEW MARDES (2)

Yesterday evening there was the virtual distribution of the awards for the photo contest, at the Vacature SIM in Second Life.
The three winners were present , although I was a little bit late, due to login problems (again). it took me a half hour to get in. Luckily for me AnnSophie did wait for me, and so did Vint and Loki, who were the first to arrive at the place.
I assume that everyone was a little bit thirsty, or could not wait to start dancing, as the actual handing over of the prices was done in a few minutes. Congrats to all contestants again!
And afterwards, well......yes.....there was a party with again, a contest, for best dressed male and female. And who won..........yes indeed, again Vint falken and Looker Lumet.
Nice organisation though from AnnSophie, Vacature and secondlifecrew.be. I hope it will not be a "one time" event.
