Did you know...Quicktime Exploit Fixed

Apparently the Quicktime exploit, which causes some trouble in Second Life, by viewing videos inworld, is updated. But you need to update Quicktime.
You still can view videos with the old Quicktime, so it is important to update.
The only question that I have for the moment is, why Linden Lab, does not inform all the residents to update quicktime.

Did you know ...about various metrics on Second Life avatars

In RL we have regularly a list with newborns in the region with the most popular first names. Well, now you have such a list for the 50 most used and popular first names in Second Life, or even the 50 most popular last names are to be found in that list.
Do you want to find out if someone you know has his SL birthday?
Do you want to know how big the Linden family is, and what their names are? Even a member list of the famous Anche Chung Systems is to be found here.
So everything you wanted to know about Second Life avatars, but did not yet discovered, is now listed and made public.
Did you even know that there are companies who have their company name as last name, such as DutchX, PhilipsDesign, Xerox, CiscoSystems, Google and many other custom names?
Although some figures don't seem to be accurate, it is nice to found out who's birthday it actually is, so you can surprise your friend, without he/she knowing about it.
I expect that list to be very long in the coming months, or is it just coincidence, that there are a lot of my friends who came on the grid in that period?

Did you know...about the red beacon of confusion

You have certainly seen it on your screen in Second Life, the red beacon that points to a certain location. Well, if it bothers you, you can easily make it disappear.
When you visit a location a vertical red beacon appears nearby, along with a red arrow that follows you around until you walk through the beacon to make it disappear. However, sometimes the beacon is in a place where you can't walk through it, and sometimes the red arrow follows you when you teleport to a new location.
Here is the simple way to take care of this problem.
When you arrive at a location and there is a red arrow trying to point you to the red beacon, just open your main map window to show your current location. You will also see the red circle of the beacon and the yellow circle that represents you. Then just click on the yellow circle and the beacon will shift to your avatar's position and either disappear or be very close so you can walk through it and get rid of it.

Did you know...

.....that the scripter Zynx Zabelin has created recently a flexible skirt in Second Life, which makes it possible to sit on a chair, without having those prims going through the object. Even when the avatar walks, the dress will remain nicely where is is supposed to be, without having your legs coming out of the dress.

Nyte Caligary, the designer who sells the Sensidress, will have quiet busy days, as everyone is interested in this magnificent creation.
And it was not Second Life, if not someone claims to have created this already back in January.
It still remains quiet an achievement and a progress in second life.

Anyhow, you can check the preview of the dresses at Nyte 'N' Day's blog.

Did you know...

......that you can hide objects, like poseballs, while taking snapshots. If I only knew that some days before, it would have helped me a lot at the second life wedding of Elise and Yves.

1. Client -> Rendering -> Hide Selected
2. Select any poseballs and obstacles by holding shift and selecting them — be careful not to select anything significant!

Thanks to Smiley Barry who put a comment on Vint's blog.

Did you know....

...that another schoolyear is to begin in Second Life for Ontario's Loyalist College to prepare young Canadians for jobs as corrections officers and prison administrators. It is in fact a role play where they can simulate the worst cases in prison.
Thanks in part to schools like Loyalist College, Second Life is set for its biggest ever back-to-school rush. About 300 colleges and universities have established a presence in Second Life, and thousands of students at other institutions are expected to visit the virtual world, equipped with shiny new laptops and speedy broadband connections.

Did you know....

....that the WWF opened their island on Second life last week. It is a beautiful place where you can talk with the animals about a durable way of living in harmony together.
"Ever wondered what life would be like on a desert island?
Well nothing will have prepared you for this!
Pack your virtual suitcase and head for Conservation Island, a place where an orangutan will sell you an ice cream and a floating panda will be your friend."
It's all new and it's all happening on Conservation Island, WWF's strangest home in the virtual world of Second Life...

Did you know....

...that you can be held accountable, along with all the other members of a particular group, for any debts the group may run up.
For example, when the group owns land, and wanted to be listed in "Places", the costs will not be accounted to the owner, but to all members of the group, and there will be, and is, no warning that you may be accountable for such costs when you join the group.
So, next time someone offers you a membership to a group, remember to read the fine print first.;)

Did you know...

......that, just as in RL, a divorce is more expensive than a marriage. If you want a partnership in Second Life, you can send a proposal to another avatar, but a real partnering, will cost you 10 L$ each. If one of the partners would like to divorce, it will cost him/her 25L$.
So you see, Second Life reflects more and more RL. :-)
